4th of JulyBefore the start: Led by the Mustang convertible, the Can-Do contingent, comprising our entry in the July 4Independence Day Parade,prepares to take its place in the Temecula Parade in Old Town. The covertible featured Kristen Mora, principal of St. Jeanne de Lestonnac Christian School, which won the Mayor's Trophy this year, and Gianeen Almaria, who won first place in our essay contest. Gianeen is a fourth grader from Temecula Luiseno Elementary School. The young man in the passenger's seat in the convertible is Justin Markowitz, last year's winner of the Medallion of Initiative. At the time, he was a senior at Temecula Valley High School. The second section of our three-part entry consisted of young volunteers who assisted us in stapling Can-Do Day information to 6,000+ packets of President Reagan's favorite candy, that were given away during Jelly Belly Week earlier this year. A couple of "future volunteers" rode their tricycles to show their support. Bringing up the rear was RIck Reiss and his Hummer. Passengers were Marg Tomkins, wife of Friends of Ronald Reagan Sports Park Advisory Board member Tom Tompkins and Founding President Perry Peters.
